As guests moved past, they would see that his head was missing, and that it would then mysteriously appear in the hat box. Because of issues with lighting and timing, the effect didn't work. Publicity photos were taken, but the figure was removed before the Mansion opened to the public. While the new Seance room effects may well have a figure similar to the old Hatbox Ghost, it is not "THE" Hatbox Ghost in reality.

It is a creepy ghost face that appears and disappears. So it does have that in common with the Hatbox Ghost, because both effects feature humanoid facial features. But other than this new ghost effect resembling an adult human male, there's no connection between it and the Hatbox Ghost.
