I was wondering, though--can I get the DVDs I already own onto my iPod? Will the format work? Or do I have to buy them from iTunes?

Also, does anyone know anything about the new Nano Video? Is it really going to be different than the old iPod Video, or just smaller?

The old ones are down about a hundred dollars, now, so that's played a big part in my change of heart. :)

There are various windows applications that will do the same thing. Some commercial and some free. Both of the mac software titles above are freeware.

As far as I know the video on the nano works the same as the 5g videos however the interface is changed a little bit. other than that you can see the video as usual.

I still have the 5g 30gig and it works fine. i didnt get it for video though, I got if for the capacity. I am thinking of jumping to a 160 classic which at that point is a good sized portable harddrive.

I was slow to jump on board with these but now I loveeeeeeee em!

I have a shuffle that I use in my car set up through my car speakers.
It never leaves my car, except to change songs.

Also we have a 60g iPod that we leave at home and have it on one of those good quality speaker docks and use that for my music and video while at home.

Then I have a green 8g Nano that is on my person at all times, it's so handy as it's thin and can fit anywhere...I slip it in under my bra strap and it's with me always.
I just loveeeeeee it, I use it while shopping, exercising, waiting around for appointments etc.
    It's FAB!

I didn't intend to end up with three of them.

Barry bought the 60g for me as a present but it's too big for me to carry around all the time, so we got the shuffle, that doesn't have the same flexibility with music lists, so along came the Nano and I think it's my fav of all three!

That's my tip for you christiemarsh, go to a shop and feel each one in your hands and see which one you would like to carry around with you because it isn't always the biggest storage capacity that's the easiest to use on a daily basis!

Good luck with your choice, those new touch ones look great...I might be tempted.......

I cant live without my iPod. I even have a pair of ear buds in my pocket at all times just in case.

I've also started listening to about a dozen podcasts on a regular basis, which really helps the work day go by faster.

One thing I've heard about the new Nano is the screen is very high resolution, so even though it's tiny, it's very clear. I would assume the screens on the new iPod classics have improved as well.

I know that some DVD's have an extra system protecting them from being ripped; do any of these programs manage to get around that?
