Like phone calls, are local calls free, or is there a charge? Same for toll fre calls? Not taking a laptop, so internet isn't really an issue here. What is the gift shop like? Small? What kind of things are available? Oh yes, what time does Housekeeping usually clean rooms? Thanks, we look forward to our first DL trip and first stay at the Candy Cane Sept 17-24!! Jules

Also...a hair dryer and coffee maker. They also have a great continental breakfast with all kinds of goodies. Not just coffee, pastries and juice. Real good selection. I've been in the gift shop and it is small with the usual little souveniers. A bit pricy I thought and I generally don't buy anything. There is a 7-11 type store real close by so if your looking for refrig. stuff...the store might be your next bet. If your looking for great Disney buys...then check out the Clearance store in Fullerton. It is just 3 miles from the Candy Cane and you'll have fun looking! As for housekeeping...they start early...but will check your room whenever you leave. We've always been gone in the morning around 8:00am or so and come back late in the afternoon and found our room clean. They will work around you after all your their guest!! Have fun! ºoº
Originally Posted By Stacers76 Ok I'm not a regular, but we just stayed at the Candy Cane last week....so hopefully this is good enough The phone had a $20 deposit to open the line for any calls and then various charges applied depending on the call.... Very typical small gift shop, but directly next door (very very short walkable distance) is a convenience store and on the other side of that is a 7-11. There was a nice coffee maker, iron&ironing board, great hair dryer (couldn't figure out how to get it off the wall to swipe it, JUST KIDDING!!) and a fridge that we put sodas in and it started freezing them...so beware it's cold! We had a standard room with 2 queen size beds which were great, but the pillows were...ehh. The room was very clean...as for housekeeping...it varied. One day we came back around 430pm for a rest and the room hadn't been cleaned, not a huge deal and when they did show up shortly thereafter we just asked for clean towels and got all we needed. Also one day we weren't feeling well and came back for an afternoon nap and put out the "Do no disturb" sign, they did actually call to see if we wanted the room cleaned and at what time...which was really nice I thought, usually you put out your sign and you're out of luck with housekeeping. I have NO complaints whatsoever...the shuttle was great...drivers were very friendly and it generally left on time and would pick up stragglers as it did the loop through the hotel...the front desk told us the 1st shuttle left at 7am if you have early entry, but we saw one leave at 630am...and there is no shuttle service between 800-815pm for the driver's break..... So good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay! )

Suggestions?

I think there's a couple payphones in the lobby.I brought my cell phone so I didn't need one. It's funny that some else mentioned the pillows.I actually like that the pillows there are on the flatter side...I hate really tall pillows. The beds are super comfortable. The bathrooms are extremely clean, which is an issue for me as my daughter prefers baths to showers. They also offer a nice selection of shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc. If you have the option, request a room on the second floor on the left hand side and you can see some of the fireworks. I bought a gallon bottle of water at the convenience store next door for 1.99 and filled up our water bottle every day(A single bottle in the park is 2.75!)The store also has alot of snack foods pretty reasonably priced. You asked about other motels. I was tempted to try the Park Place Inn since it's right across the street and well-liked, but the prospect of clean bathrooms and comfortable beds brought us back to the Candy Cane.

Originally Posted By tapdancemom >>The hot chocolate is very good and Tapdancemom I got to try those iced muffins << Told you guys they were good. We enjoyed CCI for the same reasons listed above. If I'm not staying directly across the street from the park I epecially like that CCI has a shuttle exlusive to that property. The staff is great, good breakfast included and nice clean, big bathrooms, comfy beds too.

My son bought a train set that came in a very large box at DCA just as it was closing. We decided that we would take it back to the motel and then return to enjoy Disneyland for a couple of hours. The shuttle driver, however, offered to take our package back to the hotel for us so that we didn't have to leave the park. It was waiting behind the front desk when we returned later that night. I thought that was a very generous offer and very much appreciated!!

Will you by any chance be there during that time? I'll race you to those muffins and hot chocolate.

The Candy Cane is definitely within easy walking distance AND they run a free shuttle. It's located on Harbor Blvd. - the first motel on the right as you leave Disney property via the main entrance and head to the right. Room rates vary with occupancy rates, but they're quite reasonable and include a very nice continental breakfast, too.
