They were the best! Granted, it was 1988 and I was 9....haven't watched them since.....maybe it's best I dont, and just live with the fond memories?

Plus, I hate it how they condensed books 2 and 3 into one film---that really didn't work.

That I dont remember, but it was a weekly serial not a movie, so It didn't really bother me back then. I have been tempted to purchase the DVD just for old times sake though.

And to add to the list of people we hate my brother is seeing the film next week at a preview screening. So we don't like him anymore either.

I think this film will do huge business here in the UK and it wouldn't surprise me if it beat King Kong at the box office. Us Brits have a soft spot for this story. The book was voted into the top 10 books of all time in a national poll a few years back.

I'll be there on opening night!!!

I've been skeptical up to now, since it never quite works out when Disney obviously rips off a trend (Dick Tracy for Batman, Pearl Harbor for Titanic), and this seemed like an obvious Lord of the Rings cashing-in.

But now, no more. This has the potential to be amazing. And my little nieces are a great barometer for what will do well, and all they talked about this Thanksgiving weekend was Narnia. My five-year-old niece even goes around naming the four kids.

    Definitley a good vibe.

I'm really looking forward to this flick even though I've never read the book. I have seen the old cartoon movie but I'm sure it didn't do the book justice. My brother has read the books, and he told me that this first one is the only one that really was any good.

Is he right? Is the first book the only one that was worth reading and making a movie of or is he just being picky?
