Originally Posted By peeaanuut you need to rip the movie first since it is IN DVD format. There is a free DVD ripper for macs called: MAC The Ripper. This will rip the DVD onto your computer. You than need to use another free app called: Handbrake. This will convert the ripped DVD into a file that you can use in iMovie. Usually iMovie can read some DVDs if they dont have any copy protection and I am guessing that there is no copy protection on these DVDs since they are from your own home movies. If you have iMovie 08, insert the DVD and click the video camera on the left. It should see the dvd as a source. If not, than you will need to do the method I described above. Let me know if you need help finding Mac the Ripper or Handbrake. Another program you can use to convert is iSquint which is a great video converter for the mac, it also has a big brother called VisualHub but that is a pay program that costs about $30. A great app to have if you are converting alot of video. I convert all my TV shows from my DVR using VisualHub so they play on my iPhone, iPod and aTV.

Originally Posted By peeaanuut iDVD is for making DVDs from video clips. iMovie is for editing movies. So you edit with iMovie than you produce the DVD with iDVD.
