    >>he U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to restrict Internet gambling, a move Republicans hope will boost their popularity before the November election.

By a vote of 317 to 93, politicians approved a controversial bill that tries to eliminate many forms of online gambling by targeting Internet service providers and financial intermediaries, namely banks and credit card companies that process payments to offshore Web sites.

Net gambling "is a scourge on our society," said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican who's tried for the better part of a decade to enact legislation that combats Net gambling.<<

Interesting. I would think that the Republican opinion would be more of a 'this is just another part of capitalism' and let people decide for themselves if Internet gambling is for them.

What do you Internet gambling folks think of this?

I'm not sure how that's supposed to "boost their popularity." Among super-conservatives already opposed to gambling? Maybe, but they should already have those folks locked up. For people of various political stripes who just like to gamble on the internet (and I'm not one of them, though I enjoy casinos sometimes), I would think it might just come across as annoying and "nanny"-like.

Its already a Class C felony in Washington State to gamble online......

Less punishment if you molest a child than gamble online in this state...

I don't see how they would ever enforce this. When you deposit money into a gambling site ( so I hear ) you use a thrid party like Neteller or Firepay to deposit your maney from your checking account, not a credit card.

Like people have said, they should find a way to tax the revenue if anything. I don't even like that idea.

So I guess I throw in with the libs on this one. LOL

Personally, I hate gambling and avoid it no matter the location. The few times I have gambled I've been careful to watch my spending. In a perfect world, everyone would share my level of personal responsibility & self control, but not everyone does. Sometimes the government sets limits and restrictions on peoples behaviours for the greater good, and that's fine with me.

What if the government said they were going to shut down all bath houses so that way they could protect the helpless people from getting some disease?

How about the government shutting down fattening ast food places for our own good because we can't control ourselves?

How about the governemnt give us only the money we really need from our paychecks ( after they tax it at 85% ) so we don't waste it on things like Disneyland Tickets or Churros? After all, us people are to stupid to be self responsible in so many cases.

Would you take your some approach then Shooba?

If you have some time for a beer or dinner email me William. I have the kids this weekend but can get away. It would be great to see you again. We can talk about how many times I get rivered on line and how my pocket AA got snapped off in the 4th even of the WSOP last week!

Then why is gambling legal in Nevada. Why is gambling legal on Indian reservations, etc etc.

I do not want a double standard. Do not punish those who wish to gamble while watching their kids.....err from the comfort of there own home.

Either ban gambling completely, or leave it alone online.
