That's how my Mom does it. When the bid comes up, she looks at the calendar finds out what days are the holidays in the next 6 months, and then asks for those days as her off days, making sure the main holiday is the day she gets off even when they have to work 6 day weeks (so say Christmas is a Tuesday, she will bid Mon, Tues as her off days, with Tues as her off day when they go 6 days). She has the impression that most people don't think that far in advance.

This last bid, she decided not to do it, but was still able to use vacation days so she isn't working on Christmas Eve or Christmas, actually she has Dec 19-Dec 26th off (we're visiting :) ). And she only requested them about a week before Thanksgiving. She hasn't even worked there 3 years, so again, doesn't take too long to get "senority."

The more troubling thing to her is that in time she has worked there, the frequency of the mandatory 6 days has increased; a sign of how bad the staffing problem is, and how dependent they are on the College Program. That's the primary time they go 6 days is when the old CPs go home and before the new CPs arrive.

I think that's a very reasonable and fair middle ground for all people.

Disney didn't care about all those people in their rooms when they cut hours drastically a few years back. I guess those folks loved getting kicked out of the MK at 9 on a summer's night when night hours really make a difference.

Even DAK, it closes at 5 or 6 almost all year anyway, why leave it open until 8 on 12/24?

It just seems like overkill on Disney's part.

ANd as to having people wandering around resorts aimlessly with nothing to do, there are restaurants, bars, shops and DD. Not to mention that many folks 'on vacation' at WDW have lights out by 10 p.m. anyway!

Why not look at the more pressing issues like MK open until 4am? Reopening the next morning at 7am? That doesn't allow any overnight work with only 3 hours closed - many of the attractions aren't shut off since thye take so long top turn back on.

That's really the main point here. MK, DHS usually close at 7:00 the time of year I go anyway. Ak at 5:00, and Epcot at 9:00. I feel like I've had a complete day in at the parks, I never feel cheated, but it's winter, and the sun goes down around 6:00 It would be great if the parks stayed open later year round, but not on Holidays, with the exception of New Years Eve. I enjoy the down time with my wife sitting out on the balcony over looking Bay Lake are just walking all over WL. My wife goes to bed by 10:30 at the very latest, but I'm a night person. I can always find ways to amuse myself.

    It really does.

That's just nuts to me. I'm a late night person, but I guarntee you I'm not going to be at a theme park at 4:00 in the morning. I don't care if it is WDW. I have a hard enough time staying much later than 10:00, even at Epcot, and I love that Park.

I am the opposite, but even I would never be in the MK at 3 or 4 a.m. unless it was like NYE (and they close at 1 anyway now) or if a friend brought me into see something ;-)

I am all in favor of late hours and EMH's, but 7 a.m. to 4 a.m. is absurd completely. It is not needed and is a waste of time, money and resources.
