Only if one was determined to find something sinister in his absence. The explanation that he's anchoring a bigger story is perfectly valid.

That said, even as an Olbermann fan I'm a bit surprised that he anchors their convention coverage. It seems a bit like Fox News in reverse to me. He should absolutely be on the panel offering his thoughts and criticisms. But an anchor? I'd rather see Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell doing it.

Even Bill Maher thought so. He said on his show that it looked like Olbermann and Chris Matthews looked like they wanted to have sex with Obama after his speech which was kind of funny.

And I'll say this as a positive for Olbermann he was part of the best Sportscenter anchor team with Dan Patrick.

That was hilarious. See, and I don't mind Olbermann's bias, but I want anchors or newscasters to be a bit more moderate. Olbermann seemed to be incapable of letting someone make a positive comment about Republicans or a criticism of Obama without letting it pass. I agree with him most of the time, but I don't want MSNBC becoming Fox News in reverse.

Put it another way, can you imagine the uproar if Fox News had Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly anchoring the Republican convention? I can acknowledge it ought to be a two-way street. An obviously liberal commentator shouldn't be playing the role of newsman. Olbermann needs to pick which he wants to be.

I agree, and agree that his role should not be as an anchor.

    Exactly.

So far it's unanimous. I'm going to run for President of the Keith-Olberman-Shouldn't-Be-The-Anchor-Person-At-The-Conventions party.

(No, I was never a member of the Disneyland Independence Party. Why do you ask?)

They have gone WAY past that.

When they put a ticker that says,"how many houses will this add to the McCain ticket" upon that announcement of Palin, they put everyone on notice that they have no intention of pretending to be fair anymore.
