I'm guessing that besides the name and basic storyline, there will not be much else in common with the exising show.

Also speculating that instead of doing massive scale construction in the harbor, the majority of the effects will be housed on barges, much like Illuminations at Epcot. I just don't see them draining and taking off-line the harbor like they did in DCA since the harbor itself is so integral to the park's function and identity.

Nope. They didn't want to share in the development costs of WoC so opted for something entirely new.

They wanted to spend even more money?

So, are you saying that the all-new F! will be less expensive to develop than half of WoC's development cost (assuming that actual construction is accounted for separately)? It would seem that it would have to be well under half in order for that to drive the decision.

No I'm not saying that - I'm not going to comment on WoC's costs as that information is not in the public domain.

OLC are always nervous about being involved in projects that have substantial development costs. That is why they didn't participate in the development of TSMM but waited for the attraction to get some op hours under its belt. OLC were worried about the technological innovation that is the heart of WoC and are risk-adverse as an organization.

I'm all for them making a new show, but 'playing it safe' just doesn't seem to be what the OLC does a lot of the time.

I'm also interested to see how this show is different from the other versions. The art makes it look like there will be a central mountain barge/stage, with 4 barges around it holding water and pyro effects. It may be a little more difficult to see things since the lagoon is so large, so I would supect that the staging of the whole production will be very different from the DL and WDW versions. From the impression I got from the press release, it sounds like it might only be around for a year, so that will make it a little more special too.

"Performances of “Fantasmic!” will continue to be presented after the Tokyo DisneySea 10th Anniversary celebration ends."

It seems they are planning to keep Fantasmic for quite a while, actually. Given the grand scale of the show, I wouldn't expect anything less than BraviSEAmo's run (6 years). Maybe, if popular enough, it might even stay for as long a period as the Fantasmics stateside.

I can read between the lines :) - thank you for answering my question!
