She's from Cairns, which is a medium-sized town a couple of hours' flight from where she lives now (Brisbane). My cousins live in Cairns, and last Christmas I put up a picture of Miri on my Facebook only to have my cousin say "we played netball together as teenagers!" They used to travel to Brisbane a couple of times a year to play, so I actually would have seen Miri when I was a kid. Then a couple of months ago, I mentioned her mother's unusual name to my mother, who straight away said "I went to school with a girl with that name" - in another town altogether! I checked with Miri and yes, it was the same person. Our mothers saw each other at their reunion just a few years ago. It makes me feel like we were meant to meet and become friends!
