my question is this. What are some of the "little" things that you feel should be checked out at DLR?

music and comedy shows or other environmental attractions aside from the main stuff?

The Piano player and barber shoppe quartet on main street for example.

Push the bamboo pole and pull the rope while walking to ride Indy.

I like getting coffee at the store on Main Street, listen to the party line phones there and then leave the store to sit on the porch to watch the crowds.

Take time to listen to the windows near the lockers, the balcony back by the bathrooms in NOS, the telegraph ticking out the opening day speech at NOS train station.

Watch for the fish to jump in the pond on Big Thunder Trail.

Hand feed the Koi at Disneyland Hotel (times posted near pond, mornings?).

Find Seasons of the Vine in DCA.. many people miss it. Did several trips before I found it and watched, nice air conditioned sit down time. Interesting info and pleasant music.

Have a least one character meal.

So many little things to see and do...

By that time, Critter Country is normally kind of abandoned. There we hang out by ourselves to enjoy the quiet a bit and listen to the music. My hubby, who HATES to dance, will even take my hand and start to slow dance with me while our daughter watches. Very sweet, very romantic! Its become one of our little traditions.

Then we take a slow leisurely walk back to the hub and enjoy the quiet solitude of the park as the masses fight their way down Main Street.

Once there, we find a bench, and just listen to Christmas carols and snuggle as a family while admiring the Christmas tree.

    True family bonding moments....

Since we live in the area, my most favorite thing to do is to have family who are visiting from out of state (especially kids on their first visit)go with us. My wife and I race around the park, maximizing fastpass usage while they follow our itinerary (at a much slower pace). It is kind of a game to see how many rides we can get them on with the minimum wait. At the end, we like to sit and relax and enjoy watching the crowds when it is busy.

My son trades pins, which is a nice way to begin chats with Cast Members. Loads of information to be had and lots of nice people to meet. Especially those who have worked there for years.

But as for the little things, I, too, like the Gallery, Innovations, Main Street Shops & buildings, Lincoln/50th anniversay and looking at all the artwork on the walls everywhere. The attention to detail is amazing and to me, makes Disneyland what it is.

I once watched Abby the Chicken (or is she the ugly duckling?) play peekaboo with a toddler for at least ten minutes. . . it was just the sweetest thing.

There's also a wishing well, and every few minutes you can hear the original voice of Snow White coming both from here statue and from the fountain. It's really a pretty little place to enjoy a quiet moment and soak up some of the magic.

I love the memories and moments we have made there. Like you, I have tried to explain the Disney "magic" to family who also don't get it. Its about family when you walk through those gates. Its about connecting with one another and saying "goodbye" to the outside world with all the pressure and commitments upon everyone and their time. Although my hubby, daughter, and I are already very close, it gives us a breather where we just truly slow down and enjoy each other despite the crowds. Somehow, each trip, we always come home to a special memory we have created.
