It's critical that all U.S. and Canadian readers hear from more voices like yours, as we forget that the U.S. market represents less than 40% of the gross receipts of any Disney animated feature film. (We get a bit colloquial here. Sadly it's the nature of the culture.) You're dead on when you point to this being a banner year for Disney animation - not since the 1940's have we been the fortunate recipients of two marvelous and diverse works, each unique in its own way and valuable entries in the Disney canon. I hope to read more of you here on Laughing Place, and I look forward to your response to "Treasure Planet." r.w.

Thanks "Witches" - I really like "The Black Cauldron" - actually I even did a little research to knoe more about the deleted scenes. I'm happy for the good feedback my column is having. I though many of you should not be interested in most of my topics. Thanks Rhett! I'm a big fan of your columns and is really special to read your comments. I'll be back to talk more about Treasure Planet. I'd like to thanks Doobie, Rebekah and Michelle. THANKS everyone!

Originally Posted By maniac_disney Hi! Thanks for your kind words! I'm very happy with all the good feedback. Speeking of "Treasure Planet", the feature was released in January 10 in Brazil. Well, one of the main problems with Disney these days is "if a film is a bomb in US market, forget it overseas". The film got a minimal marketing and was released in a fraction of theatres that a Disney feature usually have on vacation months. I saw it a few days ago and the theatre was only 15% full - sad for a Disney film opening week. Well, speeking of the film itself, I like Morph more than BEN. I think the robot has better scenes later in the film. I don't like the prologue - it should show more of Flint and his story (I put the long prologue story created by Disney artists on my website). Sadly, Disney lost the Brizzi Brothers - the perfect artists to create a prologue (Hunchback, Tarzan). John Pomeroy did a good job but I suppose the suits wanted changes. The main problem (for me) was that song montage. The Johnny Rzeznik song is not bad but in the film they should use an orchestration for the song or asked James Newton Howard to compose a special score for this scene (beautiful animation btw). Story-wise "Treasure Planet" have problems but the animation is perfect and the CG Effects are amazing. I continue to support my idea that 2002 is really a special year for Disney animation. Kudos for all the artists from "Lilo & Stitch" and "Treasure Planet". Thanks Kirby and Brer Rabbit. Lets hope I have a chance to run a new article here on LP in the near future. Celbi
