I just booked Desert Inn yesterday having remembered reading good reviews about it a couple of years ago. After doing some research and reading posts here I'm starting to regret my decision. The plan was to stay there for 4 nights and then switch to the Grand Cali for 4 nights using our DVC points. Now it looks as though GCH may be booked....

We've stayed at HoJo's before and LOVED it but the walk nearly did us in. DH and I are not in the greatest physical shape. The walk back to the room at night often left me near tears and I just don't want to deal with the shuttle thing.

I really want to stay as close to that crosswalk on Harbor Drive as possible. Can anyone recommend a clean, friendly and reasonably priced alternative?

Also, if anyone has a link to a recent map detailing the locations of all the hotels on Harbor that would be great.

    Thanks so much!!

The ones I have stayed at I would list in this order of nicest (only an issue for me if park closes early - otherwise it's just a place to sleep anyway)
    1. Carousel (just remodeled)
    2. BWPPI (nice enough)
    3. Desert Inn (nothing fancy - but clean)
These are those that I have stayed at.

I have heard good things about the Candy Cane and they have their own free shuttle
You could also look at those places with their own shuttles...
    Places to avoid
Anahiem Plaza Hotel (old, bugs, really a motel)
    Castle Inn (same as above)
Here is a link that I got off the LP before

My favs after Hojo would be Carousel and Camelot but you will pay more than the Desert Inn.

Even if it's miserable I doubt we'll be in the room much on those days anyways and I love how close it is...

That is what we thought when we stayed here as a group two years ago. Be very careful with your credit card they put a second set of charges (should have gone on another person's card they were told this MANY times) on my CC to the tune of almost $500.00 and it takes DAYS before the manager took it off!

The room we had was not very nice right down to the BLOOD on a pillow and moldy horrible smell coming up out of a sink...it was dirty hair from pipes that needed Mr.Plumber abot two years ago LOL.

Parking was a joke and customer service was even worse.

We stayed at Aneheim Plaza Inn in June 1997 and had a rat run across our patio (we checked out of there second night) BUT I would stay there again before I would stay at Desert Inn!!
