Like many images in our culture, the film is weighed with a racial subtext, yet keeping the film out of view because of it is just as ignorant as are those who refuse to understand the fuss. The only proper thing for Disney to do is confront directly the film’s images, as well as its cultural resonance."

I admit that I have been one of those opposed to the release of "Song of the South" because of the way it romanticizes the master-slave relationship. But, if Disney would add extras that would discuss the reality of slavery--as suggested in the quote above, I would be glad to see "South" released. I just finished watching the incredible PBS series on slavery and think that the movie could go do its part to help better understand this shameful period in US history.

There's a controversial thread on this board called "Song of the South maybe released" and there was a heated discussion all about it there if ya'd like to see.

I just say what I've always said...if we can have "Gond With the Wind", we can certainly have "SOTS"! :p
