Restored to its debut-season glory, the modified black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am is offered at $149,995 at a Dublin auto dealership. Johnny "Vette" Verhoek of Kassabian Motors has had the car, officially called Knight Industries Two Thousand, on display for about a month.

It is one of four documented "camera cars" used for close-up shots and scenes where David Hasselhoff, who played Michael Knight in the series, was behind the wheel.

The car has two working video screens on the dashboard, and the cockpit features buttons that light up in green, yellow and red: ski mode, rocket boost, micro jam, silent mode, oil slick and eject.

KITT isn't even street legal because of missing smog equipment and other modifications. Whoever buys the car will probably keep it in a private collection, or it may be purchased by a museum, Verhoek said.>>

It was a big deal when KITT was an attraction at the Philadelphia Car Show around 1985-86. They were charging $5 or so to have your picture taken by the open door. I remember being able to look in the door, from a distance, and see the TV moniters inside showing $100,000 Pyramid (which was on the air at the time). It was a cool looking setup.

I saw Knight Rider being filmed at Universal Studios many years ago. In fact, they had a display car that actually "talked" to you.

Amazingly, the car was on display at USH from 1983 - 1997. KITT 'talked' from 1983 through 1995, though.

It was a fun, interactive attraction. Some good times had there.

Then again, his star blossomed after Knight Rider...in his Baywatch days.

Never had the chance to meet him. We did however have some other stars visit the car. Soleil Moon Frye (of Punky Brewster fame) and "Weird Al" Yankovic come to mind.

If only my car was "almost invincible" like KITT was and sentient.

Hey, my 1995 Ford pickup does that. It'll turn on the wipers and sometimes even the windshield washer any old time it feels like it... like when I'm driving down the freeway at 75 mph.

I don't know if it's sentient or not, but I know swearing at it doesn't seem to help.
