Also, acording to the article, the WHO may declare this a pandemic which will affect the global economy further. If they allow political worries to keep them FROM declaring it a pandemic, and it spreads quickly, they will be to blame. So they are between a rock and a hard place. Personally, if it takes closing schools and closing the border to keep it from spreading further, I'm for it.

"What the WHO did makes no sense," says Osterholm. "In a potential pandemic, you need to have the WHO be beyond question, and (April 25) was not a good day for them." "

With 40 cases now reported in the United States, President Barack Obama said there was reason for concern but not yet "a cause for alarm." Dr. Richard Besser, acting director of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, said that so far the disease in the United States seems less severe than the outbreak in Mexico, where more than 1,600 cases have been reported and where the suspected death toll has climbed to 149. No deaths have been reported in the U.S, and only one hospitalization." The differences between health care in Mexico vs here, make it hard to gauge the severity. Many Mexicans don't go to the doctor, so it is possible that many, many more people have been sick and recovered but are unreported and so the few cases of death represent anomalies. Or maybe there is something we receive in our diet, standard health care, immunizations, etc that are providing protection, so we are seeing milder cases here in the US. Or perhaps this is the start of something. The 1918 pandemic started out as a minor bug until it mutated into a more virulent strain.
