Because he worked on the movie.

You can buy it at your supermarket. It doesn't take much to make a "bomb".

    In this case, no.

    <a href="http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-disneyland-explosion-charges-20130531,0,82825.story" target="_blank">http://www.latimes.com/local/l...25.story</a>

This story seems similar to an incident in which an exceptional student mixed aluminum and Drano to create a Drano bomb in a plastic bottle. A hysteria was created over that as well, when it really should have just been detention and a proverbial slap on the wrist.

I have soda cans explode in the freezer if I accidentally leave them in too long. Perhaps this gentleman should be sent to Toontown jail for possession of carbon dioxide.

I don't know how you can present a motive for this. He might just as well have done it with absolutely no thought beyond "I wonder how loud the bang will be?"

    +1

We are way too quick to assume the worst in people anytime something happens that we don't like.

However, if it's proven he's the one who did it, I'm not so sure he should get the "lightest possible punishment." (Or the most severe either.)

Even if he was just a stupid kid pulling a prank, it still had the potential for physical damage to some child (or adult) who happened to be standing nearby, either from sharp fragments or to the eardrums. And it still had the potential to cause a panic, with resulting injuries. And it DID cause the police to have to come to make sure it wasn't anything more serious, it did shut part of the park down, etc.

This is a high profile case. If he gets nothing more than a slap on the wrist, it may cause some other stupid kids to react with "Hey, I wonder how loud we could make OUR dry ice bomb? Maybe we could tape it and put it on youtube when everybody freaks out." Of course they'd probably be videoed themselves doing it, but I did say "stupid kids," remember.

I don't think he should have the book thrown at him, necessarily, but I do think if convicted he should get more than just the proverbial slap on the wrist.

I don't think he should be considered a terrorist or treated like one when considering what punishment would be given to him.

I also don't think he should be punished based on what someone potentially could do in the future.
It was stupid, yes. But should we ruin the rest of his life for it?
    Throw him in jail?
Is he REALLY that big of a threat?
    Maybe, but probably not.
Let's save jail for the people that are truly threats to society.
You know, murderers, child molesters, etc.

No, this was intentional. It wasn't just dry ice thrown in the trash can - that would just "mist away." This was dry ice dropped in a soda bottle, warm water added, and sealed up tight. It only becomes a bomb when the CO2 expands inside a tightly closed space and has no place to go.

I'm not saying we should ruin his life or even necessarily throw him in jail. But he should face at least a hefty fine and probation.

This person won't be able to pay any fine since he'll probably lost his job.
