InsideTheMagic.net looks at an article on a Belgian news site that indicates representatives from Disney visited a popular sand sculpture festival in Belgium with an towards doing something like them for Walt Disney World's 40th or Disneyland Paris' 20th.

I can't figure out how to link directly to the picture on Facebook (did they remove that feature when they redid the photo viewing stuff a few years back?), but it's #41 in this album.

Since it was exposed to the elements (and there was a TON of rain while we were there), they were constantly reworking it into different things. The fall fin of the whale was later turned into some other animal coming out above water's surface. Other parts were turned into other things. It was really cool walking by and checking in on what it looked like any given day.
