But you've gotta love the timing - announcing on Friday afternoon apparently still gave too many people the chance to pick up tickets at the lower rate, so now they're announcing price increases on Saturday morning and making them effective the next day, so that by the time the media and the fan sites pick up the story, it's too late to save any money. Well played, Mickey, well played.

I saw that too. What's that all about? I wonder if they are pricing the other parks lower because attendance has been down/flat for the past couple of years.

Those ticket hikes are well under the normal 3% inflation rise that all things tend to follow. So I'm not too shocked or offended.

As a government employee, I haven't had a raise in five years. We haven't replaced anyone who has left in that time.

Meanwhile, gas was somewhere around $2.10 a gallon in the fall of 2008. Here's a link to a 2008 article regarding the 2008 price hike.

    <a href="http://ocresort.ocregister.com/2008/08/01/disney-raises-ticket-prices/" target="_blank">http://ocresort.ocregister.com...-prices/</a>

$69 for adults five years ago for one park. That's about a 33% increase in about five years. I'd be curious to know what other commodity, service or goods have risen that much in five years and we casually excuse it. I've said it before- my wife and I are a two income couple with no kids. Despite no raises in years (she's gov't too), we still make a comfortable living. It used to be very comfortable, but rising prices and no raises don't work all that well together. We aren't renewing our PAPs in August. Disney has priced us out. It's no longer a sensible purchase.

Clearly, for every 1 person that stops buying an AP or downgrades, there is another person who begins buying an AP or upgrades.

It's a private company offering a popular product that is in finite supply. Disney can't speed up the factory in China to pump out more Disneyland to buy, it only has the one to offer and they can only allow so many people to buy it each year.

Supply and demand for a finite product, and obviously demand is healthy.

I was just about to buy mine on my next Disney trip as you have to buy them in person vs online. But, this price jump is so high that it's enough to make me pause and reconsider that purchase, and possibly not buy it. I just don't see the increase in product value at that level. The only new attraction that I know of that's opening at either Disney resort in 2013-2014 is Seven Dwarfs Mine Train coaster at MK, which is nice but doesn't create a value worth the price increase of $120+.

Furthermore, $120+ is more than the cost of a plane ticket to get to Disneyland for me, and the cost of one hotel room night at WDW for some. Thus, the amount of price increase for the Premier AP actually reduces your opportunity to visit Disney Parks by the cost of one plane ticket or one room night stay; therefore, making your passport less valuable than it was the year before for those of us APers who don't live in SoCal or Florida and travel and stay in hotels to visit the parks. Without an AP, I'll probably feel less of an obligation to go to Disney on vacation/holidays (trying to get my money's worth out of my passport) and be more inclined to bypass Anaheim/Orlando for other cities' attractions while on vacation. This is probably a good thing for me anyways. I need to expand my horizons a little...lol.

As for the MK pricing being higher than the other parks, I really don't understand it. From my perspective, MK is the weakest park in WDW, and severly overrated; I can't believe that they're really saying that it's worth more money than the other parks. Yes, they've been adding some things in the last couple years, but I think it's more to keep pace with itself than actually making any real must-do attractions

The crux of my argument too Hans!

I just posted at another site about the increases.

Someone compared the 47 dollar Admission in 2003 to the 92 figure today ... which is double.

And I wrote - How many people out there have had their salaries doubled in that time period?

I bet the answer .. is - Very few!

I bet most of us wouldn't argue if these price increases .. over the long haul .. were just incremental adjustments for inflation. And people's salaries/wage. But they are not.

Disney is all too slick! They know how to keep people hooked in by that "Disney magic" ... and justify opening their wallets wider. GOTCHYA!

Well ... as time goes on ... some people .. some families are being priced out.

    Disney's response - TOUGH TITTIES!

At least not while being responsible in terms of the other aspects of our life that take precedence.

Luckily, I still get to go with having a family CM connection. Although, I wonder once My Magic+ is rolled out, how "welcome" I will be at the Disney Theme Parks in the future.

But back to the point, if we feel priced out by Disney, how do so many people still afford it? I'm afraid that I do know the answer...by running up credit cards, not saving for retirement, letting house/car repairs fall by the wayside, etc. And I suppose, if the average length of stay is dropping, than 3 days is more affordable than 7.

But that's going to catch up with Disney (and everywhere else) some day. And I supposed from the CEO chair, you may know that "someday" is coming, but you won't be the one in charge yet, and it will be someone else's problem.
