When DLRP opened nearly all of the Discoveryland attractions were sponsored by various corporations. Now only Kodak and Oranfe/SonyEricsson remain as attraction sponsors. The other official sponsors mostly support restaurants and supply Disney with catering products, like beverages, food, ice cream, coffee or cereals. For example at TDR nearly all attractions have a corporate sponsor.

I am not a parade person and that was just the right length of parade for my attention span. ;-) But I could not beleive it when I read about it coming back again and again! I was very lucky in March that we were there in the weeks between festivals, so no character train or hub show. Made the park much more manageable. And they had a mini parade with the cars along main street which was so short that it was just a cute diversion.

However, if it fits the theme, I can live with it much better, for example the old fashioned Hertz adds along Main Street. I understand that it makes sense from a business point of view, though. I wonder whether the rather run down appearance of the resort would not deter potential sponsors. Interesting also that a European company like Siemens goes ahead to sponsor one of the main attractions in Florida instead of something in Europe...

Didn't Siemens tkae over the US lightbulb manufacturer Sylvania which sponsored the ride before? I think that's the reason why Siemens sponsors Spaceship Earth. By the way, Opel sponsored DLRP for a few years. Then Ford followed and now they have no car supplier. A huge German company would be a perfect sponsor, because that would force Disney to promote the parks in the DACH market (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) as well.

However, I always felt that this deal might have had it's root in the general GM-Disney relationship since Opel just is a subsidiary of GM. Also, I was rather surprised that a brand which is not known in the second biggest market for DLP (Opel is Vauxhall in the UK) was a sponsor. I don't think that Sylvania sponsored SSE before Siemens, perhaps one of the Epcot experts can help us out with that???
