The old film was almost all 9-screen surround shots, with maybe one or 2 of birds flying. They really needed to get out and shoot some more surround stuff for the new movie, and they didn't - they just used some tricky editing to make it new, and it simply doesn't hold up for me. But I have to say that while I'm not wild about the inside references to Disney ("go to the golf ball and turn left"), the crowd seems to like 'em, so I'll let that go.

THIS is why the fans have been winning at DL since the 50th. New=disaster/marketing/bomb/no creativity

Plus I don't think it will be a big hit, I don't think its as good as people remeber it being.

Incredible!!

I wonder if we had grown up with those rides, as kids are doing today we might have a different view on them. Does that make sense? Maybe the kid's today will grow up and dislike when Disney yanks or changes any of them. Just a thought. What do you think or am I way out there on my thoughts?

I've always wondered if DL could have even survived if there was in internet back in the 50's, and everyone could get together and trash what they didn't like.

I doubt if Disneyland would've survived. Every business that becomes a legendary business has to be started at the right time with the right person. That right person was Walt and that right time was 1955. Disneyland turned into a magical place in 1959 when subs and Matterhorn opened. It became legendary in the early sixties with Tiki Room, and beyond legendary with Lincoln, Small World, Pirates and Haunted Mansion.

If they couldn't do something amazing, due to budget, they simply didn't do it. That's why Epcot ends abruptly in some places and why there are plots of land that were intended to be filled. Going back to spinner, minor dark rides that are really just dressed up carnival rides, etc.. all looks cheap after all that. They made new ride systems for anything they wanted at Epcot - they proved they could do it. They didn't overlay anything onto an off-the-shelf ride system. They kept that trend for a while. The had unique expensive themed rides at MGM and AK and certainly TDS. It was DCA where things went south and the only unique system was Soarin. Then ride after ride from then on was something dinky and carnival-like.

I did that with my friends one quiet evening, and we had a great time on it. Since it was so quiet, we ended up going on it three times in a row (getting off and running back through the queue before it started up again) and we were cracking up the whole time. I'm pretty sure the CM thought we had stopped by the Cove Bar on the way (which we hadn't), but it was great anyway.
