I guess I don't know what's right at Disney theme parks. I loved 'The Seas' -- thought it was a great pre-show movie.

Then again, I also like 'Seasons of the Vine' 'Golden Dreams' 'Oh Canada' and that one post-attraction film in the Norway pavilion, so what do I know?

So, now Ellen Degeneres has two attractions at EPCOT. She's in 'Universe of Energy' and voices Dory at 'The Living Seas.'

    Interesting....or not.

I am right with you there Jim, however it appears we must not be in the target audience....

I don't know that Disney has changed it's target audience so much as they seem to have decided more and more to "give the target audience what they want." Instead of giving them MORE than what they want to challenge people to rise to it.

"Reality TV" in general drives me nuts. And yet you can see that's where so much TV programming is going. "What the audience wants."

And the premise and delivery of "Finding Nemo" from Pixar is so strong and excellent that I can only hope this attraction will extend and honor it.

    I hope.

From Disney this morning: "The Seas with Nemo & Friends, opening fall 2006 at Epcot, will be a whimsical and visually stunning attraction in The Living Seas pavilion featuring technology that for all appearances has the stars of "Finding Nemo" swimming amid the live marine life of the huge aquarium in an adventure that picks up where the motion picture left off. However now the place just seems more pleasant and less gloomy. Now it looks like an "human tank". Adding Nemo and friends has done a lot to revitalize the pavallion. The place is now packed all the time. This is partically do to the spill over from The Land Pavallion with Soarin being so popular. Kids love The Living Seas Pavillion! Lots of bright tropical fish now. I think they need to add more fish to the large tank since it seems to empty.

    Over all I like it.

Sounds to me like you know good movies/attractions, Jim.

Yes. But Disney has made a conscious decision to dumb down its product. That's why you no longer have immersvive 20-30 minute attractions/rides/shows at Epcot, but get quick thrills like Test Track and Mission Space.

Walt was always good at giving the audience what it didn't even know it wanted. Now, in trying to go after the MTV Generation, Generation X, the GameBoy generation whatever you wanna call it, Disney strikes out a lot more than it homers.

"Reality TV" in general drives me nuts. And yet you can see that's where so much TV programming is going. "What the audience wants."

Except reality TV has no staying power. That's why ABC's resurgence is behind shows like Boston Legal, Lost, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives with the Extreme Makeover Home show being an exception.

Other than American Idol, which for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would watch, and Survivor, most reality shows disappear very quickly .... even if they start out quite hot.

For me though, I know in todays world they want a tie in to get people in. But for me there has to be a line between Whimsy and Reality.

I can't wait to see children who expect their fish to talk to them, because they do in an educational attraction.

Why can't people appreciate Nature without a tie-in.

    Can't wait to see

"Come see the Rocky Mountains with Yu Gi Oh!"

"Watch the government in Action! Capitol Hill by Barney"

I used to think I did. You don't know the hammering I've taken on this site regarding those movies/attractions.

At DCA, the movie/attractions suck by proxy.
