The only movie attraction I feel shouldn't have gone into DCA was MuppetVision, and not because I don't enjoy it or the characters because I do. It was just already old and tired when DCA opened and the characters haven't been relevant for quite a while. The decision to just toss it in DCA reeked of cheapness. But overall, the movies aren't DCA's biggest problem. I even enjoy Golden Dreams, although I would have enjoyed the AA-show that was originally supposed to be built a whole lot more.
Originally Posted By LuvDatDisney "Our society expects so much more then years ago..." You could very easily argue the opposite. That society in general expects so much less. I believe that. "we also loved the Disney of the 70's and 80's, but with the technology of today, guests want to be thrilled ,scared out of their wits and flipped, tumbled , jarred, you name it..." Than WDW isn't doing a good job of that either. How many true thrill rides does WDW have? I would say none. ToT may be fun, but's mild. The MK coasters are a joke compared to extreme coasters, same with RnRC -- going upside down doesn't equal thrills. Mission Space may be in a certain kind of way, but it's so unique I wouldn't put it in the thrill category. So if WDW is thinking thrills are attracting people to its parks, they are way off. Any coaster buff will laugh at the idea that Everest is a great, thrilling ride. It isn't. It's a very good Disney ride. It's grossly out of touch with today's audience, but it could easily be made relevant again to mainstream audiences. The problem is AAs are costly and WDW has gotten rid of many people whose jobs were strictly to take care of/repair the technological wonders. A 90-second coaster in a big soundtage, square building, costs far less in so many ways. I'd like to go back to 1971 for a few days, but then I'd like to come back

I don't think Disney wants to go against all that Walt wanted, and that was no park where you couldn't share the attractions together and not have to sit there while your kids did the riding... I'm not sure which direction Disney should go in next... You hate to see the tried and true and oldies but goodies disappear..

That doesn't strike me as a place that doesn't produce what people want. I think it is just a smoke and mirror campaign that is trying to tell everyone that is what they want. The same way that TV depicts older people and "males" as idiots. It isn't true but the message is somehow allowed to get out there anyway. Disney can have it's mild thrill rides and it won't hurt anything. If it looses what made it Disney then it will no longer be that special place to visit. It will be just another amusement park. I'm not saying that some of the "brilliant" young minds of today won't change it, sadly there is a good chance they will, but then it will be Six Flags over Orlando. Who needs it! I know my yearly trips will stop and I'm sure many other will to. Teens may need to be entertained but it's us old folks that are paying for it. Not without something for me, I won't. Besides that they only stay young for a short time and there numbers aren't as big as us boomers. As for CoP missing the connection of today world remember it was 90% history when it was first introduced in 1962. Most young people couldn't relate then either. The end scene is really not that far away from today's life anyway. Do any of you out there have a voice activated stove? Are there not a lot of "virtual" games in use today? The whole purpose is to show us the path we took to get here. It is as relevant today as it was 40 years ago. The time gap in the scenes is the area that most of us "boomers" actually lived in and it's hardly worthy of recap. Upgrade, explore, expand but stick with the basics and it will work for a long, long time.

In comparison to the hype IOA gets on fan sites, it has not resonated with the general public very much at all. Attendance-wise it fell below even DCA last year, a park that gets overly criticized on many fan sites, some unwarranted imo. In total, IOA and the Citywalk expansions have only helped Universal attract 1.8 million more people last year than when Universal Studios was a one theme park destination in 1998. Disney does not need to create the next biggest coaster, but to continue to build "Disney-style thrill rides" and exciting family rides that pack a certain element of thrill either physically or emotionally. They need to continue to have rides that tell a story in an environment that no other park would or could create. Everest is a perfect example. No other theme park company would dare build a 200 foot mountain with the level of detail Everest has and then intermingle a coaster within its supports while telling a compelling story on various levels along with it. Hopefully this Nemo ride will also provide something that provides an emotional thrill to guests of all ages, much the same way other great new additions like Philharmagic, Soarin' and Turtle Talk have.

The thought that was expressed was that Disney DOESN'T produce a specific type of product that SOME people want. And that is also obviously true, as some people pay lots of money, travel long distances, start clubs and fan sites dedicated to 425'tall 120 mph sooo not disney rides. See I luv'em both, but I do really like when Disney gives us a glimpse of what they could do if they would aim the fury of thier considerable talents at the true extreme genre. I would imagine it would look like this: <a href="http://www.screamscape.com/html/dollywood_-_mystery_mine_0.htm" target="_blank">http://www.screamscape.com/htm l/dollywood_-_mystery_mine_0.htm</a> 120' vertical drop into a flaming mine shaft filled with aa bears.

I love the themed rides that Disney has... and I love the old stuff too... CoP is one of my favorites... I would love to see Disney build a whole park of themed rides like EE... but that would be very very expensive to do... I was just throwing out alternatives... to keep the crowds coming back... we oldsters still like the way the park used to be LOL... Hey I liked ME ... I thought he did a great job... am I opening up a whole new can of worms LOL...
