Originally Posted By mawnck I haven't seen a converted one. But I have seen several that were produced in the format originally. They looked like flat drawings on several layers. I still don't see how this can work well without adding shading and other surface indicators to the drawings. The eye can't detect 3D within a solid non-differentiated color.

Funny that it looks bad enough that they won't release it in theaters, but apparently they think it's good enough to press forward on 14 other features for home use. I saw Tron in 3D because I had a free pass; otherwise, I wouldn't spend the extra money. It's too gimmicky and distracting. If people like it, fine, but I have a feeling the fad could end in a few years. I don't know a single person who prefers it after trying it.

Can't speak for Tron, haven't seen it, not interested. Try Tangled and then get back to us. I'm not nuts about 3D either (and I don't like the TV version of it regardless of the movie), but it really did enhance Tangled in the theater. Oh, and it also made Avatar tolerable.

I remember seeing a short IMAX 3D film years ago - something like "Haunted Castle" which was all animated from a first person point of view. It was nothing but gimmick and a complete hoot. But if you're going to be subtle and not exploit it to the fullest, I don't see much point. 3D House of Pancakes!
