Originally Posted By brotherdave Accidents on Turnpike style attractions like this are fairly common. Not always resulting in broken bones, mind you, but operators of these types of rides tend to get "banged up" more than other ride operators due to the nature of the attraction. Kids driving don't always pay attention to the rules and what's happening around them. Many try to purposely hit the cars in front of them for an added "thill", even when told not to. This is why so many parks have either removed their similar rides or put radio-controlled "auto stops" on the cars. Same for go-karts, which probably has an even greater risk of injury for both operators and riders. Our local park removed their gas powered cars in favor of electric ones 20+ years ago to gain more control of the vehicles. Anytime you have an attraction in which the guest can "drive", there's always a greater risk of injury since you can't always control a rider's behavior or abilities.
