But this past weekend--while at Epcot--I went to order some chicken strips like I usually do--only to find out they don't sell them any more!!! Instead, they are now selling 6 little chicken nuggets in place of the 3, normal sized chicken strips that used to seem worth the price. ORDDU: Yes, and we can't help wondering if these little chicken nuggets are a sign of the times, due to the recent economic woes that seem to be affecting all of America--or if this is a sign that Disney is price gouging by being too cheap. ORWEN: The prices for chicken strips and fries keep going up all the time at Disney World an it usually seems like they're just not giving the guest their money's worth. These little chicken nuggets sure aren't equal to the same amount of chicken you would get from the strips. And if they're substituting chicken nuggets for chicken strips at Epcot, they must be doing the same thing at Magic Kingdom and Disney Hollywood Studios--not to mention Animal Kingdom. ORDDU: It would seem that this is just one more sign that Disney management is looking to cut corners at the expense of their guests. A coven of witches has to ask where does it end? ORWEN: I say it ends when guests start pointing out what's going on and voicing a public complaint!! With all the admission price hikes and parking price hikes, along with the food price hikes, I just don't believe Disney had to come out with less cluck for our buck over these puny little chicken nuggets!! ORGOCH: Well, heck!! Why don'tcha's all do what I's been doin' all these years whilst at the Dizzy Resort?! I hunts down my OWN dang food!! Ain't I been tellin' ya--fer years--that the best frogs is found off a Tom Sawdust Island?!?!

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Disney "cut back" because it was trying to save humanity from obesity. What is this obsession with other peoples weight? If you're not obese, mind your own business. It is us heavy folks that are going to die young. Then you thin folk will have the whole planet to yourselves. Have fun with it. As for, what's a person to do about Disney's high prices, low quantity/quality issue? Don't buy the wretched things. Eat something else that still is reasonable or do like I do, leave the park and eat off-site where there are still good meals for way less then Disney's deep fried garbage. As for frogs, it takes way too many to make a meal and besides that, how do you get them to not hop out of your hands?

ORGOCH: Ta answer yer question 'bout how ta keep a frog from jumpin' outta yer hand, Goofyernmost, ducklin'--it's easy! Yer s'posed ta bite the heads off, first, an' then throw the rest a the green body parts inta the gunny sack I always bring with me!! Ain't never lost a frog yet--dead er alive!!

While there really is no "healthy" version of deep fried chicken, it is true that nuggets have a lot more breading. So the strips at least cut back on that aspect. Maybe everyone should just stick to Turkey Legs...!

If they were concerned about that, they could have just cut the portion size while sticking with the (relatively) more healthy chicken strips. But that would have been too obvious, as you'd now be getting less of the same item for the same price. Well, they could have then lowered the price at the same time, and the fact that this option wasn't chosen (stay with the same menu item, but lower the portion size and price in order to make it more healthy) reveals that the "more healthy" notion is just fiction (or at best a charade if anyone from Disney actually tries to make that claim in this particular situation) and that the real reason is cost cutting. As others have mentioned, food prices have been going up, so we all understand the need for price increases from time to time. So, why didn't Disney just raise the price? There are a couple of reasons. For one, a price increase would have no effect on people on the DDP - the only way to increase profits from those guests from a particular menu item or food outlet is to cut costs. Second, by changing the menu item, it hides the change from most guests. Even for those that remember the old ones, you now get 6 smaller items instead of 3 larger ones, so it probably appears to be a sideways move to many people. But when you consider that the total amount of chicken is probably half of what it was, and that it's a much cheaper cut of meat, the cost for the chicken might have gone down 70% or more. Being able to accomplish that while keeping the price the same probably earned someone a gold star.

Eat a snack or 2 in the park, depending how long we will be there. And then eat dinner when we leave. I can eat at Olive Garden for what a burger costs in the parks. As for the snacks, I mean something like one of them giant bullfrogs legs they sell in TL.

It wouldn't surprise me if Disney made a menu move for similar reasons. Although, I've found that McDonald's has a new chicken strip product that is pretty good -- which goes against that theory. Although, they offer both nuggets and strips.
