I have some concerns for the Enchanted Tiki Room under old management.

As has been mentioned by some.....all that hard work won't pay off....at least as far as I can tell.

I saw the original show once as a kid and liked it. Of all the times I've been to WDW since I started going annually since 2004...I saw new management two times between 2004 and it's closure.

Will I see the new/old show when it reopens in August? Sure. Will I enjoy it? Most likely.

But then what? All the fanboys and sweatshirt moms rush into it for the first couple weeks.....the first soft opening days people will be on youtube trying to see any shaky footage they can from someone's camera bag of the attraction....and then.....the lines will go away.

The average person who goes twice in their life to WDW will go in, either fall asleep or laugh their butt off or walk out midway. It'll be the 1980s all over again but with less hairspray.

Because WDW targets people with severe ADHD, I'm semi surprised TDO would allow the entire pavilion to be practically rebuilt inside and just cheaply get their hands on the 2005 digital copy of the tiki room at disneyland.

Then again....this is TDO...they LOVE it cheap.

If this was pre 1990s and they were given the task to move forward, I would imagine there would have been an entirely new polynesian style show in the spirit of the original,,,and with it being 2011...probably a new poly show with interactive elements...not that all interactive elements are bad if done right, but because TDO loves people with ADHD they would have them using their iphone the moment they get in the queue.

So after all that hard work and money into what will make the attraction look as fresh as it was on opening day.....I just don't see the turn around.

Maybe if they did reduced shows, or something...but giving us the 2005 disneyland version won't do much for the MK.

I'll take the original....shortened down or not ANY DAY over new management....but I fear for the ride's dignity (did I just say that?) it will become nothing more than a naptime chamber in adventureland come mid october.

But, MousDad's going to go out on a limb and predict that attendance after the opening rush will be equal to or better than UNM's. Skipper will let me know if my prediction does not come true, I'm sure.

    Either way, I'll be happy.

Agreed. Still should have been a new show.

<<But, MousDad's going to go out on a limb and predict that attendance after the opening rush will be equal to or better than UNM's.>>

I don't think that's going out on much of a limb. UNM's attendance was horrendous, by far one of the worst in the park.

I would hope it improves at least a little, but if not, it really can't get any worse.

If the best Disney can now do is bring back the old show then maybe imagination is gone from the world and there should be no more changes to the Disney theme parks.

    Don't be so sure!

When the sadly neglected and sparsely attended Tiki Room at Disneyland was given its sparkling makeover in 2005, there were naysayers (I'm sorry-- REALISTS) who said it was a waste of money and resources. The Tiki Room was old and boring, they said, and after the initial rush it would settle back into the same old torpor.

But... the Tiki Room in DL has continued to draw respectable crowds. And not just the Usual Suspects. A lot of families with very young children like the TR. Hipsters find it a bit of retro charm. And all the Disney True Believers out there appreciate it for its place in Disney Theme Park History.

Don't know for certain if the same will be true at the MK. While not to everyone's taste, it's a charming show and deserves a loving makeover.

As a general rule, you are correct. But since UNM was such low class garbage, I think an exception was warranted in this case.

But I agree that bringing back old shows is a dangerous path to go down wholesale.

If it remains there, for a very long time, yes. I'd like to see a new, better, show in a few years.

LOL... so true. Actually, more like 1971 without the plaid bell bottoms.

I understand people's nostalgic love for this attraction, but I kind of wish they'd do something new in that location.

At DL that's understandable because it's the sole remaining AA theater show (not counting Lincoln). However, at WDW you still have The Bears, Carousel of Progress, Hall of Presidents, and now the Tiki Birds. The word that comes to mind when I think of this lineup: stale.

I always bring my own to the show. I just put my flask under my coon skin cap. You'll get through security every time.
