It would have been an easy loophole to fill, but they missed on that one.

But overall I truly enjoyed the movie, especially the first 15 minutes or so. Very moving, very well done!

Hmm, I actually think that would have been an unnecessary tangent and probably would have distracted from the film's pretty tightly focused storyline. We know that Muntz had been essentially living alone with the dogs for as many as 60-70 years, which would have given him a lot of time to work on the inventions and training needed to make the dogs what they were. My sense is that this was probably as much as we needed to know.

The "alfa" dog with the high pitched voice made me laugh till I cried. So goofy.

And I loved the bit when Russell had to go to bathroom and asked if he was supposed to dig a hole before or after. Hilarious!

The scenes where Russell would talk about his absent father made me cry as well. In a way, I was glad that the dad didn't show up at the end because that's a lot less realistic, and yet, it was sad at the same time.

But favorite character had to be Carl. He relationship with Ellie was so touching and when he went back to look through her scrapbook, I teared up. Wonderful film!

On the show, they mentioned how in some fine restaurants, each person's food is brought out by a separate waiter. The plates are placed at the table all at the same time, and the covers are removed all at the same time. So after just watching that, here the dog waiters did that exact thing! He was so impressed that the film makers knew that.

Okay, if you're talking about reality, this movie was absurd. It wasn't just one stretch, it was one after another after another...

I thought it was great! Just a wonderful film.

    SPOILERS:

The dogs in planes was certainly the hardest to swallow, but after watching the old guy pull his house around for days, it just rolled off the proverbial back.

Had no problem with the intelligence of the dogs, however. Animals in animated films have been as smart as humans since as far back as I can remember. Whether they talk or not.

Thought Russell was a marvelous character. A kid character who didn't annoy me...whoa.

I cried three times during the film, which is not unusual. What is unusual was the uncontrolled sobbing. Normally the tears flow, but the emotion here was more intense than that.

This is the saddest film opening since Oliver and Company.

I liked Up so much better than Wall*E, which I found only so-so. It was great!

And even when Alpha and the pack came around, they were acting like dogs on the hunt. When it came to serving dinner, flying planes, etc., well that was just a bit much for me. And as I said, it would have been easy to sneak in a 30 second segment about how Muntz hired a canine geneticist, moved his operation to South America, and successfully produced a more intelligent canine. I'm guessing something of this nature was probably discussed at Pixar, and was nixed because it would drag down the action. It's not a dealbreaker for me or anything, as I still loved the movie. But I just thought that one aspect could have been dealt with a little bit better.
