Here is a perfect opportunity. She is the one of the four candidates that does not need to be working on Senate business. She can extol the benefits of a McCain/Palin administration and carry the torch for the short time McCain is doing Senate business. And the American people can see that their VP can step into the shoes and take that 3AM phone call. You don't have to suspend the campaign.

The real reason for this is that McCain's just downright funnier right now - unintentionally so, but he is. The Palin pick opened up previously unforeseen vistas to these guys. Jon Stewart's been in rare form, even for him over Palin. Obama on the other hand, probably knows that to survive at all in this campaign with "fly over states" given that he's a liberal, and a "colored" one at that, he has to watch his every move. Hell, one someone *else* said something it caused him grief. But he weathered Reverend Wright. Obama has to know if he made a statement like the guns and religion thing in the general campaign, it's all over. Too many people are predictably waiting for him to do something, anything, wrong just to say "See! We knew he wasn't a real patriot! We knew he wasn't a real American!"

A week ago Bill Maher said, "Of course, Bill Clinton knows all about seeing lipstick on a pig," in a not-so-subtle reference to Monica.

The flailings of McCain/Palin get laughs. Maybe McCain should go with that for a new campaign slogan -- "If you want 4 more years of a President who is a joke, vote for me!"

Okay, I don't know about SNL and the Daily Show, but Letterman has been making fun of McCain for years. A sample from April of 2008: >>“You know who I like? I like that John McCain,” Letterman said in his monologue. “He looks like the guy who makes keys at [the] hardware store. He looks like the guy who has wiry hair growing out of new places,” Letterman said as McCain walked onto the stage. “Hey Letterman,” he said. “You think that stuff’s pretty funny don’t you? Well you look like a guy whose laptop would be seized by the authorities. You look like the guy smuggling reptiles in his pants. You look like the guy who neighbors later say, 'he mostly kept to himself.'” McCain laughed the entire time and even mimicked Letterman’s posture on the stage.<< http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2...54.shtml

Lord knows what the electorate actually winds up voting on (character, personality, issues, personal bias, some weird combo of these), so I'll not be making ANY predictions until Jan. 20, 2009. LOL

Letterman just WOULDN'T let it go and made some great points about Palin stepping in for the campaign and why it shouldnt be suspended. That's WHY you have a VP pick in the first place, right?? (They all saw the CBS video though---no way is she taking over lol). He had some sharp insults for her as well. My favorite-- 'Palin was at the U.N. yesterday and met the President of Georgia. She said she was very honored to meet Jimmy Carter.' He even said maybe it wouldnt be in the best interest Palin didnt take control lol. I think it just reeeaally pissed him off not only Mccain cancel at the last minute (which he kept saying the OLD McCain wouldnt do that) but then to see McCain turn up on CBS news with Katie Couric INSTEAD of his show probably what pushed him over the edge. I guess he was there to clean up the mess Palin made last night from what I posted (and if they get elected, I have a feeling McCain will spend a lot of time cleaning up Palin's gaffe's ). But it was RUDE to break your promise on one show, even if its just a comedy show for another and the fact he was interviewed the EXACT same time he was suppose to be sitting with Dave probably didnt help. And to make matters worse, Letterman brings in Keith Olbermann to replace McCain. LOL, you already kicked McCain while he's down, dont bring in a friend to help kick him . Olbermann certainly didnt hold back either reminding everyone how just a week ago according to McCain the economy was 'fundamentally strong' and now he has to cancel Letterman and be in Washington so quickly if he's not there in a few hours, the country will turn into a bread line overnight. Yeah, not looking too good McCain. It was GREAT stuff. Man, I wish I recorded it . Another gem of the night by Paul: Dave: 'Think he'll come back on the show Paul.' Paul: 'After the drumming you been giving him, I wouldnt bet on it.' Ah, cant wait for the rerun .

Their job is to write comedy based on what's funny. If you're going to insist that it's because they are biased against McCain, you have to actually back it up. Like Obama said, "You can't just make stuff up." Some analysis would be nice. Until we hear an explanation as to why they also make fun of Democrats, then this notion is completely bunk.

I haven't watched Letterman in ages, before last night. I told DH, "So...Letterman doesn't think much of CBS' national news anchor, does he?" I suspect if it was still Dan Rather, he would have sucked it up as part of the "more important places to be."

I will say that if MAYBE McCain told him AHEAD of time and told him he wanted to do CBS news instead of LYING to him, because really that's what ticked him off also, then maybe it wouldve been a different outcome. BTW, he spends every night doing 'Great moments in Presidential speeches' showing Bush goof up on speeches all the time (and what's scary is, this is a *nightly* skit now and they still have sooo much material ), I can imagine now what they will be doing with McCain over this.
