We were once one adult and three children who waited in line for Buzz. Just before it entered the building, we were joined by one adult and a two year old. That seemed okay.

But how far can you go?

Can one adult stand in line for Nemo, and then after the bulk of the wait, be joined by another adult and their three kids? Or is that too much?

What about child swaps? Adult A, Kid 1, and Kid 2 ride Nemo. Adult B and (too scared) Kid 3 wait in line. After the ride, they swap kids. Adult A leaves with Kid 3 and passes Kid 1 and Kid 2 to Adult B and the three of them ride.

I thought this kind of child swap was cool. But I asked about doing it at another park, and the operator said no. And I don't know if swapping one non-rider for two re-riders is too much. Or if age matters - handing a five year old over the fence is different from helping your sixth grader over the fence.

Thoughts?

I frequently travel in groups. The only time we ever join in a line is when it does not affect the people behind us. Example - adding a person to Small World or Pirates.

With rides that hold only a couple of people per vehicle, it makes those standing in line wait longer and I consider that rude.

If I have a child that needs to go to the bathroom as we are joining a ride, the rest of us do not get in line and then "hold" a spot for them-we all wait and then join the line as a group.

If I have another adult, I take the one that has to go to the bathroom, and we hurry back. We were already in line, waited our fair share, etc. And if someone in front of me or behind me has the same issue, I don't have a problem.

I do have a problem if I get in line behind 1 or 2 people, then 2 or 4 more jump in, after waiting an hour or so. That's just not right. Wait, leave, come right back, wait more.

I've even had the person in front of me leave to go get a snack, and I've given them $$ to bring me something, too. Or pick up fastpasses for me. They're not going anywhere. LOL

How about a whole family just cutting in front of you with no one in the line waiting for them? It happened to us last July. We tried to tell them the line was a ways back, but they did not understand english. The people behind us weren't happy about it either.

How convenient for them. I wonder how often they use that. I have seen many people use the blank stare, we don't understand English-only to see them understand English just fine when it is in their best interest to do so.

The presumption of this title's thread and the opening post is that it is up to the guest to decide what constitutes appropriate line-jumping behavior and what doesn't.

But doesn't The Park determine the rules about waiting in line?

And isn't the basic rule that all persons who want to ride an attraction need to wait in that attraction's line?

I would never cut into line in front of people, I think it's awfully rude.

I do agree that it is unfare to have a large amount of people join in the line as you approach the end of the line.
I have let my children, during the summer and in the nemo line, go sit on the chairs in the tomorrowland terrace area - once we were close enough to see them. This was done in 15 min shifts (boys for 15min then the girls) everyone in line knew how many people were in line with me from the beginning.

exactly...in a 120 minute line, you tend to "make friends" with those around you...

I've even held someone's place in line..it was a lady and her small child, and the kid had to go "really bad"..probably about 3 or 4...so I let her out, and held her spot. And when it was my daughter's turn to use the potty, she did the same for me.

And honestly, if your kid is potty training and can't stand in the line or whatever, why not just go check out attractions that aren't so busy?

That's what I've done...plenty of times (yup, I have a daughter and we've never considered that an appropriate excuse to cut the lines...ever).

It's really good in practice too.

In fact, it's really the ONLY fair way to do things.

I think Disney even has a policy in place that states "no placeholding", but whether or not the employees enforce it is another story.

Actually in the Nemo line they will open the chains to let you in and out - maybe because they realize that with a line over 120min there will be plenty of people that do need a potty break - also during the summer people were just going for drinks - and like others mentioned people were helping others by getting them items too!

Nope..we all wait together at the start. But, if in the course of waiting in line, someone has to pee, well, we'll step out, and be back in 10 minutes, tops.

Again, I don't think that's the policy. It might be something the cast members do, but that doesn't mean they're supposed to do it.
