On September 10, 2001 the 29th Annual Annie Award nominees were announced. Disney received nominations for Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure, The Emperor's New Groove, Disney's House of Mouse, Disney's Teacher's Pet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, and Disney's Lloyd in Space.

"Atlantis" was shut out of major awards, and "Final Fantasy" totally ignored.

There are some head-scratchers in there ... "Lady & the Tramp II" for best video? "Osmosis Jones" for best movie ??? (Did anybody see that?)

The voice actors are a little odd too ... Cameron Diaz ("Shrek") and "Cree Summer ("Atlantis") were snubbed, while 2 nods went to "L&T II" and one to "Little Mermaid II" ... ??? Oh well, now we know Eartha Kitt (Yzma) will win.

Leonard Nimoy was picked over Michael J. Fox in "Atlantis" and Eddie Murphy but no Mike Myers for "Shrek". Let's hope Patrick Warburton (Kronk) gets it.

    Other high points:

"Perfect World", not "My Funny Friend & Me", nominated for best song.

"House of Mouse" up for best daytime series.

James Newton Howard's score for "Atlantis" nominated.

The awards will be handed out Nov 10th.

("Emperor's New Groove" was good - but not *that* good.) I also think there should be more voice categories - this was not nearly enough to give everyone a fair shake.

Patrick Warburton over Eddie Murphy, also. Eddie was only Mushu in a donkey outfit, this year.

Interesting to see how many more nominations TENG received compared to Atlantis.

Glad to see that House of Mouse received some recognition too. I'm looking forward to "Snowed in at the House of Mouse" too.

I'm glad to see that "Fairly Odd Parents" (not Disney) received 6 nominations!

The best movie should go to Shrek
    Nominations missing:
    Atlantis
Final Fantasy (the one that should have won)

Best character animation should go to Shrek
    Nominations missing:
    Final Fantasy

Best effects animation should go to Shrek
    Nominations missing:
Final Fantasy (This one should have won)

Best directing animated movie should go to Shrek
    Nominations missing:
    Final Fantasy
Atlantis (Lady and Tramp 2 beat this?)

Best score for animated movie should go to Atlantis
    Nominations missing:
Final Fantasy (Why are they snubbing this movie? Scooby Doo is better than this great score?)

Best song should go to Perfect World from Emperor's New Groove

    Nominations missing:
The Spirits Within from Final Fantasy
It Is You Who I Have Loved from Shrek (the one that should have won)

Production design for a movie should go to one of the Shrek nominations
    Nominations missing:
Let's all say this together, Final Fantasy

Storyboarding for a movie should go to Atlantis I think (not that familiar with any of the storyboards)

Best writing of an animated movie should go to Shrek
    Nominations missing:
Ok you know the routine now. . .Final Fantasy

Female voice in an animated movie should go to Florence Stanley for Mrs. Packard
    Nominations missing:
Perhaps the most ridiculous snub of them all, but the voice of Aki from Final Fantasy who delivered an amazing performance was snubbed by Alyssa Millano and Tara Strong (from Direct to Videos no less). It should have gone to her with no problem.
    Cameron Diaz in Shrek
The voice of the princess in Atlantis

Male voice in a movie should go to Patrick Warburton for Kronk.
    Nominations missing:
    Michael J. Fox for Atlantis
    Mike Meyers for Shrek
Donald Sutherland for. . .you guessed it Final Fantasy

I don't know what the technical achievment is usually for but Final Fantasy was pretty groundbreaking.

Anyway with my picks the final tally for movies would be:
    6 Shrek
    4 Atlantis the Lost Empire
    2 Emperor's New Groove
1 Joseph the King of Dreams

of course Final Fantasy should have gotten 3 awards and 10 nominations. What was their problem with this movie? Did they not consider it animated or something?

Glad to see Perfect World nominated for best song, thats one catchy tune!

I agree with Koobar, where's Gorillaz nomination? the graphics in that video were very nice!
