I'm also not sure how I feel about transitioning the mine from abandoned, to being actively used. It certainly changes the ride's backstory a lot. Many of the new signs also look more like they're from the 1920's/30's than the ride's original 1870's/80's theme. The concept behind the canaries is cute, but I don't like how cartoony they look. I'd much prefer they looked like real birds, to fit in the real world setting of Frontierland (Splash Mountain excluded) Does anybody know if they're planning to install any of these 'additions' to DL's ride during it's current 10 month overhaul?

I wonder if it's the same team who just finished with Grizzly Gulch at Hong Kong Disneyland? It seems very similar to what they did there, considering that area is supposed to be active as well. It sure does change the Big Thunder story a lot to have it an active mine...

But aside from the Applebee's "themeing" throughout, I can't help but think most of this stuff will be broken and beat to heck within 90 days. They'll probably put up a fight and try and keep it fixed and fixed a third time through at least this first summer, but by next fall the sad state of WDW maintenance will finally engulf all of these toys and they'll be broken and turned off for good. Applebee's. HA!
