Heck, it's only been a month, and so much as changed. I know that now is an accidental clustering of new offerings, but it is really good to see so many new things going in, and with virtually all of them generating positive buzz.

And then I started counting parade performers and run time on these things. And the compare/contrast with the current WDW parades says a lot about the difference between Anaheim and Orlando. It also shows why Soundsational is so impressive. It's got nearly twice the staffing and it's over twice the length of the WDW parades. If you are a Floridian, read and weep; Magic Kingdom - Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade Run Time = 7:30 Minutes Floats = 6 Push Units = 0 Performers/Dancers = 29 Characters = 44 Disney Hollywood Studios - Countdown To Fun Parade Run Time = 7:15 Minutes Floats = 6 Push Units = 2 (The two rolling traffic cones at the very end) Performers/Dancers = 31 Characters = 18 Disneyland USA - Mickey's Soundsational Parade Run Time = 15:10 Minutes Floats = 9 Push Units = 6 Performers/Dancers = 70 Characters = 33

I could actually see myself watching it again and enjoying it just as much as I did seeing it for the first time. The drumline was a brilliant touch! They appeared to really be enjoying what they do and the formation changes being done made it fresh and exciting. ( I am a drumline fan anyway so maybe this isn't as exciting to others). The floats were colorful (although the Lion King float was a little too familiar...) and all of the performers really seemed to love what they were doing and seemed to be having the times of their lives (Not the fake smiles seen during Celebrate...) I can see this being very popular with both kids and adults alike.

It was fine but the girls looked like pinatas and having jose and panchito behind with pinata sticks was just odd.

On Friday there was just one Mardi Gras mask girl, so maybe someone called in sick or something?

And the three Anaheim parades are big and lavish. By popular demand, I have just watched the Pixar Play Parade, which is now on hiatus at DCA due to massive construction along the parade route, and sometimes ON the parade route. Here's the breakdown of the parade's run in 2010; DCA - Pixar Play Parade 2010 Version Run Time = 12:30 Minutes Floats = 6 Push Units = 9 Dancers/Performers = 45 Characters = 25 The Ratatouille unit was cut from the parade for at least several months in 2010, and I forget the reason why now. Anyone remember? When you include the Ratatouille segment, that adds about 90 seconds of Run Time, 1 Float, 4 Performers and 4 Characters to the tally above. Pixar Play Parade really feeds off the special effects it offers; several of the floats have squirting water effects, there are bubbles, fire, lots of smaller push units interacting with the crowd, etc. It's an impressive, upbeat pageant with unique floats, interactive effects, and a healthy run time of 12:30 to 14 minutes. So... what's the excuse for the 7 Minute long value-engineered recycled parades in WDW again? Humidity? Yeah, let's go with humidity.
