Disneyland's Fantasmic! turned 20 last weekend. Doug takes a look back at the Spring of 1992, the construction of Fantasmic! and the impact it had on the park.

If you haven't been there yet there's much more to learn about Fantasmic's creation at Kevin Kidney's website:

    <a href="http://miehana.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">http://miehana.blogspot.com/</a>

Included are test animation models filmed in stop motion by Kevin, what happened to the first dragon head (part of those technical difficulties you mentioned) and where the second dragon head can be viewed by the public today, after July 6.

Doug, you'll have to go up to Simi Valley and do another article on this exhibit.

A side note: During the year Fantasmic was being constructed, I was fortunate enough to live about 3 hrs from DL and I'd take the family about 4 times a year. Funny, I have no recollection of the construction. I do remember the preview posters, but I remember only those that had the name Fantasmic! on them - which was very late in the game.

I do remember the first show that I saw. I was blown away.

That seems kind of crazy for a show that was only planned to run for 5 years, but I'm really glad they took the time to do it right. For comparison, how long did the World of Color construction take at DCA? I think that was also just over a year, right?

And it's great to hear the stories of the show's creation. It's interesting to see how all the stories I've read sound like a bunch of people just playing around, yet such a great production came out of it.
