The biggest surprise for me was the realization at how small the total area is. From the drawings it looks huge with a long walk from say Pooh to Mermaid but it is actually a lot closer that is looks in the drawings. The coaster presses very close to the construction wall directly across from Pooh. It should be interesting to see when all done. From everything I could see it looks very nice

But I guess it allows WDW to stretch the opening of FLE into several years. (Although by the time it's all open, the focus will be on Universal, Transformers, Potter 2...etc)

They announced the whole area earlier in the design phase than usual, so that they could make a flashy reveal at the D23 Expo. When the princess meet and greets were (literally) met with a collective groan, they had to scramble to come up with a replacement. The coaster was announced about 18 months after the rest of the area, and likely had to be designed from scratch (part of me thinks that they had done some concept work on it already, but they were clearly hoping the meet and greets would anchor the new space. Considering how long design and construction schedules take in the real world, I don't think there's anything surprising about Disney's schedule

I was really confused when the rockwork appeared to be finished all those months ago, and included green-painted sections that were presumably supposed to represent grass. While I don't think it needs to have Splash Mountain-esque real grass, I'm glad that they are going for a more realistic look
