The idea of Test Track being a showcase for the process of designing and improving a vehicle seemed pretty interesting to me - yes there was a bit of a theatrical presentation with the Semi almost hitting the car on a simulated roadway but are they going to set up more of those obviously staged situations as opposed to showing how cars get tested on actual test tracks? Might some guests find it disturbing to experience a bunch of close calls in a car at an amusement park and then get flashbacks when they return home and face their couple of hours daily commute each day?

Since the ride shuts down during thunderstorms, that creates a whole lot of downtime in the late spring/summer months. If they knew they were going to need to close it anyway, maybe they just decided to do it in the part of the year that already has logistical headaches.

That said, I really do wonder how much work they can do in 5 months. In 12 months, Space Mountain only got a few noticeable upgrades. DL's Buena Vista Street is being completed in 9 months, but may not be fully operational on opening day. 5 months just seems like an awfully short time to get a lot of big changes, so I'm a little confused on what to expect from the changes. I feel like, realistically, it will be some signage changes, maybe a queue update, new preshow and on-ride videos, and general freshening up, but it will probably remain largely the same; why else has there been no concept art?

I remember this well because an engineer who worked for a company that was providing software to my company at the time expressed a huge amount of disappointment with the fact that he had scheduled his vacation time and booked a very expensive hotel package and non-refundable airfares for the supposed opening time for Test Track only to find out the opening was not going to take place a couple of months beforehand. Since that fiasco, Disney has been very careful about announcemts of when attractions will open.

Different beasts entirely. Test Track is basically barren inside, so prefabbed theming and scenes just need to be shipped in.

Space Mountain was almost all structural work, something that's not really necessary in Test Track, at least not to the same extent.
