I liked the new floats, but I do have a bone to pick with what I think you mean by the "new technology." (that is, a bone to pick with the design, not you).

    Roger55 said in another thread:

<<< Interesting how Mike and Crush are not made upo of lights.

Except for performing characters, isn't the original MSEP made up of all lights? TDL's Dreamlights always have had portions not made from lights(e.g. the snail and bug's heads).

It looks really nice, but I would've like to see Mike & Crush done from lights. >>>

I kind of agree. What's done on the snail and bug's head doesn't bother me. I also think that the projection technology used on Mike & Sulley's eyes is a great addition.

But I am slightly bothered by what they did with the Nemo unit. The internally-lit, transparent objects just don't do it for me - I want my electrical parade done with individual discreet lights, thank you very much. It is interesting technology, and would be great if it was deployed in the parks in some other fashion.

Cindy's dress was incredible. Each time I saw the parade, at the dramatic moment in the soundtrack when her dress turns bright white, the crowd reacted with oohs and ahhs.

I did notice that crush seemed "different", but I didn't really recognize what it was, and I don't think it really bothered me much (in any case, Mike looked freakin amazing!).

It was basically the same lighting technology that has been used in the original MSEP at WDW. So, it was quite a disappointment to me, both in terms of visual effects and theme. As for the music, I wouldn't say "bad", but perhaps "unremarkable." I certainly would not make an effort to see it again.

I see that Spectro debuted in 1992. Since they had the MSEP at WDW for 15 years, I would have expected Spectro to be a lot more, rather than just a different design and music using essentially the same technology. So, after having enjoyed Dreamlights for the last 5 years, I was surprised to be taken back in time so to speak with Spectro.

The Dreamlights lighting technology is clearly a generation (if not several) more advanced than MSEP or Spectro. The article about Dreamlights in Issue 9 of Tales talks about this a bit, and how the newer LED technology that was available to the designers gave them a lot more flexibility and options in terms of color and other things. The difference clearly shows. And, they've just updated it this year to be even better.

Thinking about this now, is it true that this newer technology that's been at TDL since 2001 is not in any of the US parks? In looking at it, there appears to be no nighttime parade at DL (for how many years has this been the case?), DEP at DCA based on the MSEP (complete with "bicentennial" unit), and Spectro from 1992 at MK.

But I do draw the line at Crush. Dreamlights just has a particular look about it, and most of it is based on discreet pinpoints of light. Now that they've updated it, we probably have several years to go before it gets updated/replaced, but if that were to happen, I hope efforts are made to keep it more in line with the "millions of pinpoints of light" design, incorporating newer technology that may become available.
