Something I never really notice in the parks, though people do obviously bring them in.. but on NYE they're used by many as survival kits - it's the only day I wear one into the park (or bring any bag for that matter). Has bottles of water, a towel or two in case it rains, and powerbars/sunblock/etc.

I remember during EPCOT Center's debut year when I first visited that park (July 1983), lines were absolutely outrageous! 2-3 hour waits for just about EVERY attraction was the norm, including the high capacity Omnimover rides like Spaceship Earth and World of Motion. There were temporary queues everywhere! El Rio del Tiempo's line literally stretched outside the Mexico pyramid and onto the bridges for the Odyssey complex (then a huge counter service facitliy). The line wrapped partly around the Odyssey building with temporary rope queues there. If I'm not mistaken, to enter the ride's line, it was closer to World of Motion than Mexico. (3 hours was the wait, I think!)

I remember waiting for Listen to the Land for almost two hours. The line went outside the pavilion on the right hand side and snaked towards where the Living Seas would be built.

There were also lines for all movie attractions, even minor attractions like Astuter Computer Revue in Communicore which went outside the building.

Needless to say, we didn't get to see much of EPCOT Center that day. We went back to the Magic Kingdom which was also busy, but not nearly as bad. We ended up returning to Epcot later that evening and stayed until midnight when everything closed. We finally saw Spaceship Earth, Journey Into Imagination, and other attractions later that evening with much shorter waits (30 minutes or less). As for the full service restaurants, it took me until my next trip 3 years later to experience one. They were all booked for all times. Counter service facilities had 30-45 minute waits, too. Crowds were absolutely crazy that first year at Epcot!

So I guess it would be a good time to just stroll, people watch, and try to stay out of the crunch! I'll be in DL on Dec. 21 & 22 this year, and I'll get at least a taste of the parks at the holidays . . .

The only significant waits were for Midway Mania--that must be hell when the park is really busy. Also did Universal (we had a 1 day, 2 park pass after 2pm---I literally walked on everything except Men in Black and Hollywood Rockit).

Supposedly CMs were stationed there to tell people what attraction each line went to. Don't know if that's true, but based on what Dave said, it sounds like it could be.
