Consumer Reports has made a living guiding people to get the most for their money - so I'm not sure I see where the same thing for a WDW trip would be any different

And I do believe the across property price incresses are because of all the freebie give aways. They lower the upfront costs with free dining and rooms, but they try to make it up on beer and a la carte menus. The 7for4 deal is an attractive offer, and a lot of folks have taken the bait. But it doesn't come with the free dining. But they give you a $200 gift card to use on food. That card doesn't go far on $32 steaks and $8 beer.
