I have no idea what the event is, but sounds like it could be a Grad Nite, for high school seniors from schools in the area (pretty much all over the west coast and southwest). They are designed for the kids, so there are DJ's and stuff set up throughout the park. Since there are many schools there at a time, they can be quite crowded. I'm not sure, but I thought those usually ran until closer to morning, and they were strictly for the grads and their chaperones.
