My mom has decided she cannot go so it will just be myself, DD (4) and DS (10). The kids really don't eat very much and since I have been dieting I can't really eat too much.

I am thinking of canceling the dining plan and just stick with sandwiches and a light breakfast all week. In exchange this will free up about $700 where we can go to water parks and maybe catch a show or two.

The only thing holding me back is I did set some great ADR's and would hate to cancel but know if I eat at all those places I will gain again.

    HELP?? What do you think?

There are certainly choices you can make that will be lower in calories. You are on vacation though, and I think it is okay to splurge a little on eating then instead of worrying about the calorie content. I am going with my DD (6) in July and we are trying the dining plan and have ADR for many, many places. That is part of the fun of going. By purchasing the dining plan I feel I will really be saving on character meals, etc. I think the dining plan seems like a bargain if you consider that.

But as has been suggested, price out a mock-trip and crunch the numbers!

a quick counter service at tusker house 7.99 no tax no gratuity
and a snack 3.00 no tax no gratuity
this adds up to 44.47 plus tax (didn't know the fla. rate)
If i choose a table service dinner instead of lunch, the savings would be even more substantial.
    so it works for me.

It's actually 38.99 per night per adult. But, as you mention it's quite easy to eat more $$ worth than that in a day. The biggest question for me, usually, is "Can I eat all the food available to me on this plan?" - and usually the answer is no, so I get to be nice to some random folks in the hotel food court when I'm checking out. :) hehe

I am leaning on keeping the dining plan. At least for today. lol

I looked everything over and changed things around a bit so I will have more breakfast then anything else. I figure as much walking around as I will be doing I should be ok.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure I will change my mind before we leave. Is anyone else as crazy as I am when it comes to their Disney vacation?

Swim, bike ride and most of all walking. I just need to learn moderation. Kind of hard on the dining plan but I just need to stop eatting when i'm full.

That'll help stretch out your eating time and let your brain tell you a bit quicker when you're full. :)

Then again, you may not want to spend that much extra time at a table instead of out in the parks having fun. :D hehe
