The whole thing was an awful decision for MGM. I assume that if one liked the stunt show, or at least had enough interest to go visit it, watch it, they would like this segment? McQueen appeared to have some neat body effects.

However, the costs to keep it maintained and running have to be astronomical. For a company so maintenance-averse, I find it puzzling that they would agree to what is possibly the second (Safari) most expensive attraction to run on property.

Having seen it 30+ times in Paris and twice in WDW, I love it, more than most of the things to be found in DHS. I cannot believe they have introduced this Lighting segment though. At least Herbie used real stunts when they were filming. As much as I love Cars, it is CGI. This is pointless synergy, but then that sums up what the management and sheeple seem to want.....
