At the evening Mass, Father had set up a fake "coffin," put candles on it, the US flag next to it and mentioned a powerful story about our military men in his homily. One of his friends is a Catholic Chaplain and after a two-day battle, the men came to him and asked him to celebrate Holy Mass for them. He said, "so many of us think of them as killers, but they're our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters." We also prayed the prayer for the souls of the faithful departed ("Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord...") and made special mention of them in the Eucharistic Prayer (in other words, the Mass was offered especially for those we remember on Memorial Day).
