An announcement will supposedly be made next Tuesday (Oct 4) when the new Little Mermaid DVD is released. Which, according to our very own leemac, will feature Tony Baxter describing the LM dark ride that was once proposed for DLP.

Anyone care to add their two cents?

I think this would make great addition to the MK, but I'd like to see them add a dark ride (for the whole family) to the mix.

The Mermaid Lagoon at TDS has many elements to it. There is the outside achitecture of King Triton's palace (which looks GORGEOUS at night), the two outdoor rides, the "underwater" show building with more rides and Ariel's Playground, and lastly, the Mermaid Lagoon Theater. It took massive amounts of money to build TDS.... which Disney didn't have to provide.

NO WAY do I see Disney copying the whole kit 'n kaboodle. Almost certainly not the "Under The Sea" show, since there already is the Little Mermaid show at the Studios. I am not too confident that they would build the indoor show building either, and instead would opt for a completely outdoor experience. Not saying it woulnd't turn out nice, but IMO don't expect anything as elaborate as the TDS "port."

But truly folks... let's imagine this for just a second.. You do realize that if TDS' Mermaid Lagoon was to be built at the MK (not that they would already want to take down that lovely kiddy playgroud they built instead in the old pond) that area along would make the rest of the MK look like an old albatross with no theming whatsoever???
Mermaid Lagoon, with all of it's off-the-shelf rides, would make the rest of the MK look so bad, it would be easy to see why the MK needs major facelifts and attention.

But hey... amuse me. Bring it on. I would not want anything less than some TDS quality at the MK, of all parks.

that would be my worst nightmare -- replacing the POO playground ( which I have been told numerous times is a place holder for that next big E ticket ) with an Ariel Playground - yikes !

I would also doubt Disney would spend so much money for a gigantic show building with the goodies spread around inside. It just seems the antithesis of what they do now.

I keep hearing of an E-Ticket definitely coming to the MK too ... and while the environment and theming would qualify, none of the attractions at TDS Mermaid Lagoon would.

I think this is wild speculation but who knows?

Seems weird to me that WDC would allow Mr. Baxter to whet the appetites of the DVD viewers by detailing a ride that they'll never get to experience for themselves.

It's like eating a seven-course meal in front of a starving person. Kind of cruel.

It is interesting that you bring this up, because it would make the perfect preview for the new attraction, targeting people who are already interested in TLM. There's a discussion of it over in the DLP threads, and someone (leemac?) has seen it. They didn't say anything about it being for WDW, but it is entierly possible that the WDW specific part was cut out for previews.

It was a Blue Sky project for DLP that could have seen a clone at DL. It isn't coming off the boards any time soon (and I suspect never will). The DVD project is part of a new closer collaboration between WDI and BVHE that will be extended even further for the POTC2 DVD.

It was a show. And you can read about it in the eighth issue of Tales from the Laughing Place magazine. :)

    That's too bad. Really.

If the Mermaid Lagoon rumor turns out to be true, the LM dark ride would be a perfect compliment. The ride's queue could occupy the current location of the LM show's theatre.

There's plenty of space at MK for both ML and the LM dark ride, and the old 20K location would be the perfect spot. Given the DVD release, this seems like a no-brainer.

I'd love to see Disney try to build something that didn't involve speed or a movie, and with multiple AA's. I know that's a TALL order.

Ok, having trouble getting a direct link, so open www.dlp-guidebook.de

Click the "Fan Area" tab on the left.
    Select "The Fantasmic Files"
    Select "The Lost Ride Series"
Select the attraction you want to read about.

If Cinderellabration is representative of what happens when things are "imported" from TDR to WDW, they should do as someone earlier suggested and just call it Ariel's Playground.
