Immigration agent Francisco Javier Gutierrez was arrested at a checkpoint near Alamogordo, N.M., about 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, the Mexican Interior Department said in a news release. Gutierrez had been fired on corruption allegations last year but returned to his job after winning a court case in which he claimed he had been unfairly dismissed, according to the National Immigration Institute.<< >>U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza sent a note to the Mexican government two days later urging it to clamp down on drug-related violence and corruption on the border region. Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez responded by calling Garza's comments out of line and sending his own diplomatic note asking the ambassador to stop making public comments about security and immigration issues. Garza then sent a second note Friday, reiterating a request "that the Government of Mexico undertake additional measures to prevent cross-border violence and to provide our government with any investigative results they may have related to the violence." Also last week, a tunnel was discovered running about 2,400 feet from a warehouse near the airport in Tijuana to a warehouse in San Diego. More than 2 tons of marijuana had been found inside. It was unclear how long the tunnel had been in operation.<<

A survey by the Daily Bulletin of border-area county and city law enforcement officers found a variety of experiences involving what some believe is activity by the Mexican military in the United States. On Monday, local law enforcement and Border Patrol agents had an armed standoff 50 miles east of El Paso with what they said they believed were Mexican soldiers. No shots were fired and the soldiers retreated back across the Rio Grande. Residents and lawmen along the border have reported similar stories for more than 10 years, said Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez. Gonzalez, a member of the Texas Border Sheriff's Coalition, a group of 16 departments along the border, said incidents similar to the standoff near Sierra Blanca are common. But, he said, some are worse than others. On March 3, 2005, a special task force investigating reports of Mexican soldiers crossing the border encountered what appeared to be a military incursion. "These individuals were wearing (battle dress uniforms), very clean-cut and in good physical condition," Gonzalez said. "They were walking in with backpacks and long-armed weapons inside our border." That night, 18 miles southeast of Laredo, Texas, the task force, which was made up of people from more than three law enforcement agencies, conducted a stakeout for what they said they believed were Mexican military. The group hid in the brush near an old gravel path called Caliche Road and waited, Gonzalez said. Later that night, one of Gonzalez's deputies spotted a group of five men in fatigues scouring the brush. Minutes later, more than 20 men followed them, dressed in military fatigues, wearing backpacks and armed with machine guns. "The (task force members) were scared and way out-numbered," Gonzalez said. "The surveillance team got out of the area and called for backup. (The deputy in charge) was afraid if they encountered these people there was going to be a shootout."<< And that is just the first bit of the article, you should go read the entire article, amazing amount of info.

It's really quite astounding to listen to the noise machine and how they work. Just consider how much time they spend talking about the "mainstream media" and how you should not pay attention to it. Compare this to how much time is spent on ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN talking about FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, or the Drudge Report - essentially zero. The traditional media spend almost all of their time talking about the stories of the day, whereas the noise machine devotes quite a good amount of time talking about the other media outlets and why you should ignore them. <<< You must be extremely closed minded is the only thing I can think of. >>> I don't know you personally, so I really couldn't make a comment like that about you one way or the other. The only way I know anything about you is based on your postings here. And you've talked quite frequently about the Factor, but I don't remember any other particular media source you've mentioned. <<< I'll continue to watch fox, cbs, nbc, msnbc, hard-ball with chris matthews, larry king, etc and I WILL be well-informed to the best of my ability whatever that is, >>> If you actually do watch CBS and NBC in addition to FOX News, then you do stand a chance at being well informed. I don't think that Fox, Drudge, Rush, or any one of other similar sources is particularly damaging or dangerous. They are part of a diverse media environment that is part of a functioning free press. When it becomes a problem is when people tune into only those sources for hours a day, and make it a point to listen to nothing else (and are proud of it). They have no idea if they're getting fair and balanced information or not. You know the tagline for America's Most Wanted? It's "It only works if you watch." The noise machine's tagline could be "It only works if you DON'T watch... any other media source." Half what they do to distort things would simply not work if you watched both them and other media outlets, which is precisely why they spend so much of their time trying to convince you not to.
