I see it as something different. What I see are some rebellious latino college-age kids with a cause, so they latch on to this Aztlan fantasy (is it any surprise that Mecha is only really found among college-age kids or radical professors?). These kinds of groups (Mecha) excel at agit-prop. It's rather interesting that extreme-right wing groups like the Minutemen are using their tactics to the same result. It's not surprising when twe extremists groups met (it's not hard to find out where the "enemy" is going to be in today's internet-connected world) that there was trouble! What's interesting, though, is that while the Minutemen is completely accepted and supported by the extreme Right, Mecha is considered a radical organization of kooks by most of the latino people I know (whether they are here with or without papers). Here's a chant for the Minutemen: "Die Mexikanisch sind unser Unglück!"
