    Is it a held held device? or built into the costume.

    Is it controlled by the character Performer, or is in timecode controlled and pre-programed?

    Since Mickey uses his hand extensively, waving around and such, I'd think the pyro was part of the gloves, not something he's holding. And I'd just about guarantee that it's timecode controlled, subject to emergency shutoff by the pyro control guy that sits at the edge of the waterway.

    I could be TOTALLY wrong on this, (since when has that stopped me?) BUT once I was watching the show in a little bit of light rain. I noticed that the smoke wasn't as heavy that night and it LOOKED LIKE Mickey was standing in front of some kind of device that came out of the ground behind him.

    This is an anchor for performers to which they are attached when performing on high platforms, such the Mickey doing his thing on top of the Mountain at the end of fantasmic at MGM and so. You can see these on some floats as well, to avoid CMs from falling from heights.
