As long as you keep the proportions right, it will taste the same That said, my favorite mint julep recipe is far different than the ones they make at DL. It's about 3 parts bourbon, 1 part simple syrup, with some meddled mint leaves and cracked ice. But unless you can get into Club 33, there's no way to order one like that in DL

In a non-alcoholic version you just don't get that, so it's just the mint and (in DL's version), the overwhelming sweetness. To each his own, but I find DL's to taste like cough syrup.
