I'm just changing my own career path (after 7 years doing the same thing), and I'm not even sure what I'm doing. I've had a couple of offers to maybe do some photo work, but we'll see. I think I need a more regular job. And also from me, thanks to your son for serving the country. Part of my family is very military-oriented, my dad writes a veterans column for a large newspaper. I've also had the opportunity to meet many veterans off of a Walter Reed stint. I just found out that one I'd met - a REALLY nice guy with a lovely family, went back after suffering a pretty big injury a couple of years ago. I'm amazed by the men and women who serve. So - thank you!!!

He's doing what he wanted, he chased the Navy since he was in the 6th grade. He is doing his thing for the "war on terrorism" but fortunately they can't get submarines into the desert, so he isn't in as dangerous a situation as so many young men & women are. But that doesn't stop this mother from worrying.

Thanks. << I did end up reading it - the title doesn't actually stand out, so it didn't hit me as something to read. It's very sad. I bet some people here gave (whether they said so or not). I had the opportunity to give to (and then collect for) an online friend/cast member who's been going through a very tough time. It isn't a statement on myself, just that I think that most of us really try to do our part for others. There is so much need. I expect he'll be back. There is nothing wrong with taking a little break from the computer/online community. I've never been able to do it though.

(that probably will change very soon).

I then also joined Compuserve and NVN. I believe NVN folded, GEnie wanted too much money, and AOL had just started. I guess I'm a 20 year addict. We need an online forum anonymous. AOL used to have great Disney boards, which shut down in the late 90's (then I went to the newsgroups).

(In fact, the 4.75 MHz XT that it ran on is still sitting right next to me and can actually be turned on and the BBS restarted if I ever wanted to. But, why?) I remember watching each letter appear on my screen with my 300 baud modem. No graphics even available in those days. I also remember getting a disk sent to me to try a new service called PEOPLE LINK (affectionately called PLINK) which eventually changed its name to ... America Online!

That must have been in interesting running a BBS! I was still missing New Jersey at the time of my first computer, so I would dial up a huge BBS in NJ (which upped the phone bills a lot). They had a GIG of disk space! I've never heard of PLINK! I sometimes miss the text base services - they were fast, simple, no waiting on graphics to load. It's amazing how far we've come, though, in 20+ years. I don't miss having AOL dial 100 times until I got a line (then I'd make sure I kept it for a long time).

(that is my message board pet peeve of 2007- I'd never seen it before last year!)

Many sites have a Wireless Access Protocall (WAP) skin for Cell phones, no images... just text.
