I was very heartened by thi.

I believe Bush made mistakes and I also believed he had accomplishments, but it drives me insane to see him demonized by the fringe left.

It is just good to see that most Americans get it!!!

I don't think most thought he was a bad man - just a bad president who made some horrible choices.
Curious - what do you see as his accomplishments? Not saying there weren't some, but frankly with all that has gone on - I find it hard to remember any.

In the last few weeks, most opinion polls show Bush's approval rating up a couple of points, but still in the high 20s.

And it depends on what you mean by "demonization." Do I think Bush is evil? Most certainly not. Do I think he lives in a bubble? Yup. Do I think he had a shockingly dangerous combination of certainty, ignorance, and loyalty at all costs? Absolutely. He had a terribly warped view of what a "real American" was and he trusted "real Americans" like Rumsfeld well past their prime. So "good person" is subjective.

    As Inspector said, get what?

I don't think Bush is some criminal mastermind or anything. Frankly I think he's way to stupid for that (in that sense, he can't hold a candle to a Hitler or a Stalin..both brilliant in their own sick minded way). He simply surrounded himself with evil-minded people to a large extent. Or at least, bad people (evil is such a catch-phrase isn't it?).

But as for "is he a good man?". Personally, I don't think so (but then again about half of the Democrats don't think so even according to your FOX news poll which requires a lot more than a grain of salt to swallow anyway lol). I think he's amoral, to put it kindly. Uncaring and inconsiderate and arrogant. And a piss poor president to say the least.

But I can buy into many Americans saying he's "a good person". I'd bet if you ran a similar poll about Clinton you'd get pretty much the same answers with the R and D flip of course (probably lower than 50% on the R side at least, due to his infidelity which seems to count more towards "good" than how many innocent people you kill I suppose).

And I'll bet you'd even get the majority of Americans to claim Nixon was "a good person". And any president you might bother to name.

I guess my point is, what's the point?

Yup. And sadly the Obama folks and it seems the majority of Lpers want to back quickly away from that and "move on". I'm baffled by that attitude, but I suppose it's just me or something.

***He is a war criminal that befits hanging.***

It would never get that far (unless, of course, some Middle Eastern country invents an unstoppable superweapon while in the meantime rendering nukes unworkable and we are forced to surrender ala Japan 1945...in a case like that all bets are off).

As long as America is on top and powerful, a former President will never get so far as a trial. I'm certain the President in office at the time would issue a pardon long before it ever got that far.

Think about it. How many monarchs (undefeated in war, at least) have ever been brought up on charges?

How many Presidents (undefeated in war, at least) have ever been brought up on charges?

    It simply doesn't occur.

What I would like to see really is Obama pardon Bush right off the bat and then the DoJ start the investigations into the many transgressions.
I don't see anyway to not prosecute Cheney, Gonzalas, and Mukasey.
And X, I agree on the amoral assessment. I don't believe he is evil except in his uncareing.
And I don't really care if any of them are actually prosecuted, but I want the world to know what they did. WHY we went into Iraq, how we got there, and their fight to stay there.
